Coach Prime’s Colorado coaching job ranked No. 1 due to ‘unheard of’ feat
Coach Prime’s Colorado football coaching job is ranked No. 1 for 2023 by Mike Farrell of Mike Farrell Sports due to the “unheard of” feat of bringing in 90 new players and turning a one-win team in 2022 to a four-win team halfway through Deion Sanders’ debut campaign in Boulder.
“I’ll have my list of top 10 coaching jobs in 2023 shortly but here’s a sneak peak — Deion Sanders is at the top,” Farrell prefaced before saying, “The job he has done has been astonishing. We’ve seen some bad teams become good very quickly like TCU, USC, and Tulane last year but to do so with 90% portal use is unheard of. Getting a team of strangers on the same page so quickly is remarkable and he deserves the kudos.”
With the prospect of five wins looking strong against a subpar Stanford Cardinal at Folsom Field on Friday, October 13, Coach Prime’s Buffs could be bowl-eligible with just one upset of a currently-ranked Pac-12 team or handling business on November 11 against Arizona.
2023 season is the ultimate Colorado football recruiting tool for Coach Prime
Leaving Boulder before the end of his five-year contract would be a waste of a hell of a recruiting tool for Coach Prime: the success of the 2023 season for Colorado football. After being counted out before the season, the Buffs stood toe-to-toe with an undefeated top-10-ranked USC, upset the 2022/23 College Football Playoff runner-up, TCU, on the road, and surpassed their projected over/under win total; all in just half a season. Who knows what else this campaign brings?
By every measure, “Prime Time” has been an unparalleled success in the Centennial State. And it’d be a shame to waste it all on a hasty jump to a bigger opportunity considering what has been built in such a short period of time.
Colorado has won before. There are enough resources to keep the Buffs relevant in the Big 12; a jump made entirely possible by Sanders.
Don’t let this magical season become one in vein, Coach Prime.
