Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has a “unique perspective” on Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal, the hot topic in college football after a Wolverines staffer was found to have been sent to opponents’ games to film signs, due to playing baseball and football professionally says CBS Sports’ David Cobb.

“Sign stealing is a common phenomenon across sports, but it typically only rises to the level of scandal or investigation when there is evidence it exceeds the rules,” Cobb prefaced before saying, “Sanders brings a unique perspective to the issue having played professional baseball and football.”

Coach Prime’s opinion on the matter was a hot topic following an October 24 press conference ahead of the Buffs’ Week 9 matchup against UCLA.

Coach Prime at Colorado football presser: Sign stealing ‘not as pronounced’ in football as baseball

Coach Prime shared his belief that the sign stealing done by Michigan wasn’t as consequential as the 2017 Houston Astros’ misdeeds — which led to a World Series win during that October — because in football, you still have to stop the opposing player.

“In football, it’s not as pronounced as baseball,” Sanders said. “If I know a curveball is coming, I got you. With football, I don’t give a darn if you know a sweep is coming, you’ve still got to stop it. Physically, it’s a physical game. You’ve got to stop it. That’s a little tough. I don’t buy into a lot of that stuff that someone is stealing this or stealing that.

“You’ve still got to play the game. Back in our glory days with San Francisco as well as the Cowboys, you know darn well Emmitt Smith is getting the ball, you know darn well Michael Irvin is running a comeback, you know darn well Jay Novacek is going to do what he’s going to do and you couldn’t stop it. It is what it is. Stop it.”

Could one now be skeptical of Sanders doing it himself? Of course. But the reality is that Sanders played during an era when not as many things were caught because of the lack of surveillance footage and a general lack of regulation across the board compared to what we see today.

Deion knows the deal. That was prevalent then, but the cream always rises to the top regardless of any extracurriculars.
