Colorado beat reporter shuts down comparisons to 2022 Buffs
DNVR’s Jake Schwanitz didn’t entertain any comparisons between Coach Prime’s Colorado football program and the infamous 2022 Buffs who won a single game in 2022 after CU lost a 34-31 heartbreaker to Arizona on a game-winning field goal as time was expiring on November 11 at Folsom Field.
After a fan tried saying that there was no difference between the 1-11 Karl Dorrell-coached massacre and the 4-6 but rapidly improving “Prime Time” Buffs since the latter may not make a bowl game, Schwanitz laid out all the reasons why the claim was nonsense — and even suggested Colorado could contend for conference championships this offseason.
“Couldn’t disagree more,” Schwanitz said of the poster’s comparison. “Last year’s team was the worst team in the P5. Far, far, far from it this year. Not making a bowl in 2023 won’t matter when this team could be competing for a conference title next season. At that point, most of y’all that are mad now will be mad that they only won 6 and made a lower-level bowl.”
Reporter to disgruntled Colorado football fans: ‘It’s coming, y’all’
While Coach Prime was arguably outdueled by Arizona’s Jedd Fisch, who was able to masterfully run down the clock in the fourth quarter of the Week 11 clash to give his team a chance to break the 31-31 tie while not offering the Buffs a chance to respond, Deion Sanders will likely be the superior recruiter to not just Fisch, but to the entire Big 12 — and perhaps the grand majority of the country — during what should be another offseason of additions.
Schwanitz kept that perspective while relaying what Coach Prime and Co. have been saying close loss after close loss: “We comin’.”
“The Buffs just played three consecutive Top 25 teams and lost those games by a combined 22 points, the last two games only being one possession,” Schwanitz prefaced before saying, “That’s one year after AVERAGING a 29-point loss on the season. It’s coming y’all. Perspective.”
When the Buffs do stampede past inferior competition in their first season in a more manageable conference in 2024, you can’t say those close to the program didn’t warn you.
