CBS Sports’ Dean Straka implied that Colorado football lost Winston Watkins Jr. due to false rumors about Coach Prime from other schools — something that Deion Sanders called out during a November 15 press scrum where he shut down the Texas A&M coaching rumor that popped up in the aftermath of Jimbo Fisher’s dismissal from the Aggies.

“Although Sanders did not name any alleged culprits, Colorado did lose a key commitment earlier in the week when four-star 2025 wide receiver prospect Winston Watkins, Jr. re-opened his commitment after previously pledging to the Buffaloes,” Straka wrote.

Coach Prime had a dignified, but stern, message to not only the coaches spreading false rumors about him but also those who believe he isn’t long for Boulder.

Sanders addressed the Texas A&M rumors with subtle anger at those who are falsely asserting things about his situation in an attempt to undermine his and his coaching staff’s efforts on the recruiting trail.

“I don’t talk about any other coaches or teams or staffs. I don’t believe in that,” Sanders said. “I am not going to put you down so I can stand up. I’ve never been that type of player or person in my life. But all these other schools are telling these young men and their families I am not going to be [at Colorado].

“They think that we’re going to be so successful that I am going to leave. So they understand what we possess and the potential we possess. But that’s not true.”

Coach Prime has cited his family, his dog, the taxes he pays, and his mailing address as reasons why he won’t be vacating his Colorado coaching role after just one season.
