247Sports’ Bud Elliott believes Travis Hunter isn’t playing in the caliber of games college football fans deserve to see him in. During the Colorado football program’s seventh loss of the 2023 season against Wazzu on November 17, one that ended with a 56-14 final score, Elliott pushed No. 12 to hit the transfer portal for a second time in as many offseasons so that fans could see Hunter in meaningful games.

“College football fans need to have Travis Hunter in some big games next year,” Elliott wrote. “His body control and ball skills are so good. Stuck losing by 50 to Washington State ain’t it. Maybe he can take 45 credits of summer online classes and grad transfer. I don’t know.”

Of course, Hunter cannot transfer again without sitting a season out due to the NCAA’s eligibility requirements. Elliott was merely stressing how much of a waste Hunter’s talents have been in a season in which Colorado hasn’t picked up a win later than Week 6 ahead of the Buffs’ finale against Utah on November 25.

Colorado football looking at an offseason of roster rebuilding

Even before Colorado was on the wrong side of the scoreboard of a 42-point whooping, the Buffs were facing the likelihood of a sizable rebuild. Now that CU is on the precipice of a six-game losing streak to end the season, and a 1-9 finish after an undefeated start, that rebuild is all but guaranteed.

By now, Coach Prime’s wishlist is well established. He called out the offensive line, claiming he’d be rebuilding it. Deion Sanders has been stubborn in his commitment to the run, even when reporters questioned if he had any interest in establishing it, so expect more bodies in the backfield. The defensive trenches, like their offensive counterparts, need to be improved to compete in the Big 12; since the Buffs didn’t do it in time to be relevant in their final Pac-12 season against perhaps the country’s best quarterback group in any conference.

Hunter isn’t a goner, but you should expect many of his teammates to be. No. 12 will be part of a drastically different-looking CU roster in 2024.
