Both top Colorado football star transfers previously in the Heisman race during the season’s opening weeks, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, could be out due to injury during the Buffs’ 2023 finale against Utah in Week 13 according to BuffZone’s Brian Howell.

“Sanders left Friday’s game, a 56-14 loss at Washington State, with numbness in his hand and an ankle injury and Coach Prime has stated this week that the Buffs aren’t sure if he’ll play when the Buffs (4-7, 1-7 Pac-12) visit Utah (7-4, 4-4) on Saturday (1 p.m., Pac-12 Network),” Howell prefaced before saying, “The Buffs are off on Mondays and Shedeur did not practice Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Meanwhile, Hunter also appeared to be out Thursday and he, too, has not practiced this week. It’s more likely that he would play than Shedeur, but it’s possible both will be out against the Utes.”

Better for Coach Prime to punt on the 2023 Colorado football finale to prioritize long-term health of Buffs cornerstones

Coach Prime is in no position to risk his son Shedeur or his top overall recruit Travis Hunter’s NFL dreams, or even future earnings potential while at Colorado, over a season finale against a physical Utah team that has the capability of making any existing ailments worse for the Buffs’ cornerstones.

What Colorado can accomplish in 2024 is far more important than stealing a game that wouldn’t even make the Buffs bowl-eligible; during what has been a down year for Utah without former Heisman hopeful Cameron Rising anyway.

Imagine the backlash that’d occur if Deion Sanders sent his son out behind an offensive line he already told publically, but to reporters directly, he was replacing next season in an ultimately inconsequential game and his existing injuries were exacerbated? Or if he risked the health of the Class of 2022’s top overall recruit; one analysts don’t even believe should be playing in Boulder to begin with?

Deion probably doesn’t want to. So don’t expect the most star-studded Buffs lineup out on the field on November 25.
