In Week 12, the Colorado Buffaloes got pounded by Washington State up in Pullman, 56-14 and to add injury to insult, quarterback Shedeur Sanders left the game with an apparent injury. He took a big hit after a botched snap and did not return to the game.
Sanders finished 6/10 passing for 86 yards and a touchdown and was replaced by freshman Ryan Staub who went 5/14 for 56 yards on the way to Colorado’s seventh loss of the year. In Deion Sanders’ first season in Boulder, the Buffaloes failed to qualify for the postseason, so his son may not play in the regular season finale.
Sanders has thrown for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns with just three interceptions and completed 69.3% of his passes despite being sacked 52 times. Colorado’s offensive line is a huge issue, so it may be wise for Sanders to sit out against Utah’s ferocious and aggressive defense in Week 13.
Utah averages 2.8 sacks per game which ranks 28th in the country and the Utes are 19th in total defense. Utah is great against the run, but if Sanders does play he could put up some decent numbers through the air because the Utes are 64th in passing defense.
When asked about the injury this week, Coach Prime said that Sanders is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Colorado started the year 3-0, but has gone 1-7 since, so the star quarterback may be interested in packing it in to preserve his body, either to return in 2024 or to head for the NFL draft.
Shedeur Sanders injury status:
Sanders is listed as DOUBTFUL with an upper-body injury.
