The talks of Deion Sanders considering an NFL job switch are growing pervasive. Naturally, the conditions are giving rise to more and more concerns for Colorado football.
CU's athletics department must brace themselves for the worst-case scenario while they wait for Sanders' decision, especially when they know what consequences will follow.
CBS Sports Shehan Jeyarajah outlines how ugly Coach Prime leaving Colorado could turn out to be: right from the transfer portal to the potential loss of coaching staff too.
"In his first two seasons, Colorado added 95 transfers. Things have settled down this year as the program brings back a few more returners, especially among backups, but one thing is clear: these players came to campus for Prime," Jeyarajah explains.
Worsening the situation for CU, the program is bidding adieu to some of the best players in the program history like Heisman winner Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to the 2025 NFL draft.
And this is not the worst part.
Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston following Prime to Dallas is.
"Furthermore, the timing of the NFL coaching cycle only adds serious complications. Most top college coaching candidates -- head and assistant -- are locked in. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston both have NFL backgrounds. Both would presumably love to follow Sanders to the pros given the opportunity, making an internal hire more complicated," Jeyarah further writes.
If this is not the worst case, Colorado football is also best believed to lose the exceptional talent brought on board by Prime like QB Julian Lewis. Most of them will have other options ready to pounce in and lure them away the moment Coach Prime steps away.
CU's best bet for now would be hoping to see light at the end of the tunnel with crossed fingers.
