Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has certainly never been afraid to speak his mind and tell it like it is - at least from his perspective. So it didn't come as much of a shock when Newton said exactly what Colorado fans have long thought about Shedeur Sanders' situation with the Cleveland Browns.

Cleveland's decision to keep Sanders as QB3 despite benching Joe Flacco in favor of Dillon Gabriel is just the latest example of it.

The Browns have no interest in Shedeur Sanders being successful. They've yet to put him in a position where he could succeed. There have been countless examples of that fact since the team drafted him. No matter how much he impressed in Training Camp and the preseason, it felt like the team was intentionally sabotaging him from the jump.

Maybe that's not the case. It doesn't take much of a leap of faith to just believe the Browns are a poorly run organization that consistently fumbles talented players. But this feels like it goes beyond incompetence.

Newton clearly agrees:

Cam Newton says the Browns don't want Shedeur Sanders to succeed

Newton's quote about the Browns comes from his 4th&1 podcast, where he discusses the whole thing with media personality Nick Wright. You can view highlights of their conversation below:

Sanders drew heavy criticism recently for "miming" an interview with Browns reporters when asked about Gabriel being named the starting QB in place of a struggling Joe Flacco. Doing so was a response to Rex Ryan's intense criticism of Sanders.

It's proof that no matter what Sanders does, he's going to catch heat for. It probably wasn't the best decision he could've made, but it also wouldn't have mattered anyway. His response would have made somebody, somewhere, angry.

And he's also the only third-string QB getting asked questions in locker rooms right now. The media isn't doing him any favors. It's why a lot of NFL teams were apprehensive to select him in the first place. They knew he would be a distraction. And he is, through no fault of his own.

Regardless, the Browns have consistently seemed to be setting the former Colorado QB up for failure since they drafted him. It's about time someone prominent called it like it is.
