CBS Sports' Shehan Jeyarajah called Deion Sanders' Colorado football program something you would've never dreamed of hearing the Buffs called in 2023 and even until the last month or two: quiet. Not only quiet, though; a quiet contender.
Jeyarajah called Colorado the quietest College Football Playoff contender after their seventh win of the season against Texas Tech moved CU to 7-2.
"Once the loudest team in college football, the Buffaloes might be the quietest College Football Playoff contender in the sport. Colorado moved to 7-2 and sole possession of No. 2 in the Big 12 after outlasting Texas Tech 41-27 in a key road victory. After the win, Colorado is now projected to reach the Big 12 Championship Game against BYU," Jeyarajah wrote.
"The Buffaloes are quietly one of the greatest success stories of the season after leaning on a passing combo of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter and a wildly underrated defensive front. Colorado ranks top 25 nationally in sacks and dragged down Texas Tech's Behren Morton six times. CU will be favored in its three remaining games."
Deion Sanders has become a different person in year two coaching Colorado football
Coach Prime looked overwhelmed at Colorado in the Pac-12 last year. It's night and day from then to now, though.
Sanders couldn't look and sound more comfortable in the Big 12.
Sanders has no rivals this season. Even Jay Norvell's CSU Rams were quietly conquered by and large -- Coach Prime calling out several of his players getting $600K NIL offers in the transfer portal and not taking it notwithstanding.
Sanders' Buffs are focused on glory in Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Shilo Sanders' final seasons before taking their talents to the NFL. Putting up 41 on Texas Tech in a two-touchdown win proves they are for real, but unlike the coverage of Colorado's losing last year, things are quiet now that the Buffs are thriving.
