Deion Sanders has always invited his fans into his world. You typically see the confidence, energy, extravagance and excitement of the Coach Prime lifestyle.
This time, he let them into something deeper.
In a recent behind the scenes video shared by Well Off Media, the moments feel familiar at first. Family around him. A hectic travel schedule with a speaking appearance or two mixed in. Sanders' lives a fast-paced life that rarely slows down.
Then, without much warning, it shifts.
Sitting and speaking directly to the camera aboard a private jet, Sanders opens up.
“A year ago, today is when I first heard that I have cancer.”
No buildup. No stage. Just the words. For a moment, everything else in the video fades behind that.
“All the different thoughts, emotions, it was almost like when you heard that word, you had a life sentence and you had no idea the outcome.”
It is not the version of Coach Prime people are used to seeing. Not the one on the sideline or at the podium. This is quieter. More personal.
But the core of it is still the same. “But I had faith. I believe. I never once doubted that God would bring me through.”
That belief carried him through the year he is describing. And as he talks, you can feel how much the people around him mattered.
“My son (Bucky) was there every step of the way.”
Looking back, Sanders does not describe it as just getting through something difficult. He frames it as how he chose to respond.
“I got to be resilient. I got to be tough. I got to be steadfast. I got to be faithful. I got to trust God.”
Then comes the line that changes everything. “A year ago today…God got me and I’m cancer free.”
It is simple. Direct. Enough. And like he often does, Sanders thought beyond his struggles and made it something bigger and more meaningful.
“To all the people that has been diagnosed with cancer…you can overcome all the adversity.”
For Coach Prime, the day that once carried uncertainty now carries perspective. And a reminder that even in the hardest moments, belief never left.
