As for Colorado's defense, they're going to need some help, and their loss of another promising freshman from the past season only compounds the problem.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports, standout freshman London Merritt will be entering his name in the NCAA's transfer portal.

In addition to being a cornerstone for Colorado's defense, Merritt was also viewed as an integral part of the team itself.

The freshman recorded just one sack in all 12 of Colorado's game this past season, but did manage to record 24 tackles and eight tackles for a loss.

In addition to earning a Big 12 honorable mention, Merritt was named to PFF's All-Freshman Team.

There were a few players considered to be untouchables, meaning Colorado would have to do everything in their power to keep them in Boulder.

London Merritt is the latest devastating Transfer Portal blow for Deion Sanders

Add him to the list of players such as Tawfiq Byard, Omarion Miller, and Alex McPherson who have been deemed major losses for this team.

Considering Colorado wasn't a very good defensive unit last season, it shouldn't surprise us that they're undergoing a major makeover on the defensive side of the ball.

In college football today, if the team doesn't perform well or the player makes less money than they would like, they are as good as gone with the easy option of transferring out.

Deion Sanders has a lot work to do as the transfer portal opens up on Jan. 2.

Let's just say they're going to need some reinforcements on the defensive side of the ball, and a lot of them.
