Deion Sanders explains how it's 'sexy' when Colorado football's naysayers are loud
Deion Sanders had an interesting way of explaining how Colorado football deals with the high levels of hate the team receives when they go on the road.
As Coach Prime revealed during an October 23 press conference, he and his team view it as "sexy" and get turned on by it. Seriously.
"We like to be booed and naysayed and hated," Sanders said (h/t Footballscoop). "That turns us on. Turns us on; kind of sexy, matter of fact.
"That’s how I felt when I played. I loved to be on the road and get booed and naysayed and hated on. I think we like being the underdogs and we like being those type of people. Not that we don’t look at the betting lines or whatever, meaning underdogs away from home. But we like that, we like that. We really do."
Deion Sanders is anything but old school when it comes to how he runs his Colorado football program
Everything you know about old-school college football coaching goes out the window when it comes to Coach Prime's behavior. Sanders became a Division I head coach at the beginning of the NIL era and is dealing with a semi-pro sport. He wasn't around during a time when saying something like this would cause a much bigger stir.
In a way, that's a good thing. Obviously, hyperbole is present here and Coach Prime is dramatizing the situation; not to mention giving the masses the kind of viral quote only "Prime Time" can come up with.
But boy is it jarring when these kind of soundbites reach the airwaves. It'll never not be for as long as Sanders, or anyone inspired by "Prime Time," is around. For now, it's still going to seem like a new-wave way of doing things that older fans will never accept.
The way things are going, though, the older fans in Boulder likely don't have a problem with it.
