Deion Sanders kept losing receiver after receiver from his Colorado football receiving corps in a 31-28 loss to K-State. Week 7 wasn't the Big 12 breakthrough the Buffs could've shocked the world with. Colorado is now 4-2 with a trip to Tuscon in Week 8 to take on the conference's other Wildcats.

And they'll do so potentially missing one of, if not all, of Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., and Omarion Miller.

Coach Prime sounded shaken by the unfortunate injury luck and the heartbreaking circumstances that consumed Colorado's loss against K-State.

"We had opportunities at the end of the game but we shouldn't have been in that situation whatsoever," Sanders said postgame (h/t The Coloradoan's Scott Procter). "Losing Travis, Jimmy and others ... took a lot out of us.

"I never thought four WRs would get hurt in one game. That's just ridiculous."

Colorado football got back Shilo Sanders but lost key offensive players in the process

Shilo Sanders returned and had seven tackles, good for third-most on the Buffs along with Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig and behind DJ McKinney (eight), and Nikhai Hill-Green (10). The defense did well considering the 35 minutes K-State had possession to Colorado's 25.

But just as the defense got a major addition via Shilo's injury return, they got an even more devastating loss with Hunter's shoulder injury. And Hunter's loss has an even greater effect on the offense.

Coach Prime was happy with defensive coordinator Robert Livingston and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. He wasn't pleased with his players. Ultimately, though, the injuries were the most gut-wrenching thing for Deion.

Sanders is a player-first coach. Particularly his own kids first, but he has a parent-like affinity for Hunter, Jordan Seaton, and at some point in the future, Julian Lewis or another 2025 QB. Among others. He's had two straight seasons of hot starts. He won't soon forsake the men who got him there.

These injuries are devastating to Deion as a coach and as a human. Week 7 is up there among the toughest nights of his coaching career. Only the Wazzu game in 2023 when Shedeur Sanders left with a broken back comes to mind as comparable.
