Deion Sanders is trying to sell Colorado football fans on hopes of "Prime Time" sticking around for the long haul. After rumors of a potential jump to the Dallas Cowboys went viral courtesy of FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz, rumors corroborated by several national reporters, Sanders admitted he spoke to Jerry Jones but reaffirmed his love for Boulder and his Buffs.
“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing. I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community," Sanders said via ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Those could be heartbreaking words for CU fans down the line if it ends up being false. And it would make a potential exit worse.
Many Buffs fans could've accepted being left for a bigger job in the NFL. That most certainly includes "America's Team." But they didn't need to be sold hope when it wasn't needed and was actively harmful.
The cold take potential is off the charts.
Coach Prime's "baby daddy" comments from the post-Black and Gold Game presser could also be as frozen as a January night in the Rockies.
"I tell them the truth," Sanders said, per Sports Illustrated. "I tell them I'm a father, not a baby daddy. I don't follow my kids. I pave roads for my kids. I build generational wealth for my kids. I lead my kids. I don't follow my kids. So, I do not plan on following my kids to the NFL. But I'm thankful, I'm glad that you already pretty much put them in the NFL. That means you believe in them wholeheartedly."
Sanders has amended them in recent days.
“You know what? The only way I would consider it is to coach my sons,” Sanders said. “Not son, sons. I love Colorado, I love my Buffaloes, I love everything we’re doing and we’re building and I love Boulder, Colorado.
"This most likely, and I’m pretty much 99-100% sure, will be the last time I’ll have an opportunity to coach my kids."
Sanders also said things about staying at Jackson State that didn't come to fruition.
We'll see how these comments and rumors age. Disappointment has befallen fans of teams Deion coached before.
