Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is no stranger to controversial claims, though his latest statement may be his most intriguing yet.
It’s widely debated whether Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, will be the draft's first overall pick. After all, CBS Sports does project Miami QB Cam Ward to take the number one spot. Additionally, as it stands, the Raiders are slated to own the first pick of the draft.
Coach Prime disagrees. In his latest interview, Sanders made it clear that he believes that not only will Shadeur go first overall, but that he’ll go to the Giants.
“The Giants are not going to give up that pick,” Sanders claimed. “Shadeur’s going to be the number one pick.”
This is an incredibly interesting take, especially since Heisman winner Travis Hunter, who Sanders has described as like his son, also plays for his Buffaloes. This doesn’t seem to matter to Coach Prime, as he mentioned that the Raiders, with Sanders’ hypothetical second pick, may or may not take Hunter.
“That’s when the game starts to play… the Raiders could go with Cam , or there could be some junk in the game and take Trav," Coach Prime said.
This all is incredibly intriguing to hear from Sanders, as many would believe that the Heisman, of all people, would take the first pick. Additionally, the Giants’ path to the first pick would require some first-rate tanking.
Whatever the case, it is abundantly clear that Deion has incredibly high faith in his athletes, so the sporting world will watch on with intrigue to see what the Giants and Raiders will do.
