The NY Giants were always hedging on a 2025 NFL draft QB coming in and replacing Daniel Jones if things didn't work out. As ESPN's Jordan Raanan relayed, the Giants' front office had Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward on their radar since before the season started.
"The Giants' fallback -- if it didn't work out with Jones -- was always to look for a solution in the draft, multiple sources have told ESPN throughout the year. It's hardly a surprise they have heavily scouted at the University of Miami and spent an inordinate amount of time in Boulder and at Colorado games. Most recently, Schoen, assistant GM Brandon Brown, director of player personnel Tim McDonnell and special assistant to the GM Jesse Armstead were at a Colorado practice late last month," Raanan wrote.
New York may have to be content with Ward. As Raanan reports, Shedeur's preference is to land with the Las Vegas Raiders.
"Multiple sources close to Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado program also believe his preference would be to land in Las Vegas. The Raiders and Giants are currently tied with the worst record in the NFL," Raanan wrote.
New York rolling with Jones and Brian Daboll in 2024 was always a curious choice. After a postseason appearance in 2022/23, the Giants took a step back last season. Malik Nabers wasn't enough of a boost by himself to make Jones an NFL-level QB1, and now there is a QB void in the Big Apple.
Don't expect Shedeur to fill it. Shedeur's desire to play in Las Vegas under Tom Brady is the worst-kept secret in sports. Deion Sanders is even being linked to the Raiders. No one is claiming Coach Prime is a candidate for the Giants job.
While Deion will likely stay in Boulder, the Vegas possibility exists. It wouldn't if Shedeur wasn't going there.
