Deion Sanders sees himself as the Mickey Goldmill to Travis Hunter's Rocky. Not competition. Coach Prime made that clear when he was pressed by a reporter to indulge in comparing "Neon Deion" when he was a player to Colorado's two-way Heisman candidate.

"It's not me against Travis," Sanders told reporters on October 8 (h/t CBS Sports). "I had my turn, man. I'm not a door knob anymore. You can just turn me on and off like a lightswitch anymore. I don't do that. Travis is everything. He is 'it.' It's his turn now. I want him to have all the accolades, all the praise, all the love, all the attention and all the focus that he desires. I've had my turn.

"I'm that old boxing coach in the corner that says, 'Left. Right. Left. Right. Hit him right here. Come on over to the corner. Let me tell you this,'. That's who I am right now. I've had my turn. It's not me against him."

Deion Sanders gives perfect answer on Travis Hunter to baiting reporter

Had Sanders indulged and said something suggesting Hunter wasn't as good now as he was with FSU in the 1980s, the media would've had one of the more polarizing Coach Prime quotes about his team since he called out the entire OL in 2023.

Sanders didn't play ball, though. His competitive side wouldn't allow him to admit Hunter was better than him either, though.

If anything, it was a perfect PR answer.

Coach Prime has been on his game in that department since the Buffs started winning. Perhaps if the wins keep coming and he can make amends with the enemies he's made in media, Hunter will get a fair shot at being voted to win the Heisman Trophy.

It's a shame that not everyone thinks he will at this point, though.
