Draft analyst rips Colorado football's role in Shedeur Sanders' development
Colorado football was ripped to shreds by USA Today Draft Wire's Curt Popejoy, who believes Boulder isn't doing much for Shedeur Sanders' draft stock and lauds his recent declaration to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
"Many project Sanders to be a top-five pick in the first round. Personally, we expect Sanders to go high but could definitely be overdrafted due to so many quarterback-needy teams," Popejoy wrote. "Sanders is far from a finished product, and we don’t expect to see a ton of growth from him on that Buffaloes team, so it only makes sense he maximizes his momentum now."
Shedeur's declaration doubled as belittling his coursework at the University of Colorado Boulder, but it's not exactly much of a secret that the "Grown QB" isn't immersed in his classes.
"I'm going to the league," Sanders said (h/t TMZ). "Ay, registration?! I know after last game man, y'all not gon' see me."
I mean, yeah. We all get it. These NFL-bound student-athletes are held to a different standard and their academic experiences vary from the common man's. But Shedeur isn't exactly doing much for CU's academic brand, here.
He is, however, doing a major service to his father's football program that'll last beyond his own time in Boulder.
Shedeur Sanders trying to get Julian Lewis to Colorado football's 2025 recruiting class
The "Grown QB" may not have much interest in the University of Colorado's coursework, but he has a vested interest in the future of Coach Prime's Buffs. Shedeur has been as open as possible about his desire to see 5-star Carrolton QB Julian Lewis replace him as QB1 in Boulder.
It may have come at the expense of recruiting any other QB in the class, but if it lands Lewis, it'll have served its purpose.
"Prime Time" just does things differently. As year two of it has shown, we don't always see the results immediately, but "Neon Deion" clearly has more than a few aces up his sleeve.
