Isaiah Augustave, Colorado’s top rusher from last season, has officially hit the transfer portal. And even though we saw the writing on the wall when he wasn’t listed on the updated spring roster, it still stings.
Augustave was the Buffs ground game in 2024. In a pass-heavy offense that lived and died by Shedeur Sanders’ arm, he quietly put together a solid year: 384 yards on 85 carries, four touchdowns, and added 11 catches for good measure.
He made the most of limited touches in an offense that didn’t exactly prioritize running backs.
Coming out of Arkansas, a lot of us thought he’d be the missing piece — a tough, downhill runner with something to prove. And to be fair, he showed flashes. You couldn’t help but wonder what he might’ve done with a full workload. We won’t get to find out now.
So, what’s next? Micah Welch is next. The sophomore’s got talent, no doubt, and now he’s got a golden opportunity to take the job and run with it (literally). But don’t be surprised if Coach Prime goes shopping in the portal this week or next.
Still, it’s hard not to feel a little deflated. Augustave had that “what if” potential — and now he’s just another name in the long list of “what could have been” in Boulder.
