Joel Klatt didn't pick his alma mater in the Week 7 K-State-Colorado football matchup; choosing the Wildcats to win in his official prediction but projecting a close game that the Buffs barely lose on their home field.

Klatt has confidence in K-State QB Avery Johnson and the rest of the Wildcats attack and defense -- so much confidence that he declared them the creme de la creme of the conference.

"Where are you going with this, Klatt? Kansas State is favored by four and a half. Don't like that," Klatt prefaced before saying, "I've got Kansas State winning on the road. Trying to...I'm trying to be impartial here. 21-20. They get the win. Colorado covers.

"I like Avery Johnson. I like Kansas State. I think they're the best team in the Big 12 right now."

Colorado football can become Big 12 frontrunner with win over K-State

Klatt may be dishing out some old-fashioned rat poison here, although it's hard to argue with any of his points. Well, besides K-State being the favorite to win the Big 12. BYU earned that by whipping the Wildcats 38-9 in Week 4.

Still, he emotionally hedged. If Colorado doesn't win, he's given himself the out that it was against the best team in the conference. He didn't get his hopes up too high, but it's clear as day he believes in Coach Prime's Buffs. Predicting a one-point loss and a spread cover is his confidence shining through.

Klatt is in a win-win spot here. Predict Colorado to lose and if they win he gets what he wants deep down.

CU earned the confidence, though. Blowing out UCF at the Bounce House and beating Baylor due to a game-tying miraculous play after a double-digit comeback shows Colorado can win from behind or from whistle to whistle.

We'll see if Klatt's mind or heart win this weekend.
