Kaidon Salter is an accomplished QB from his two years starting at Liberty, but Colorado football already has their man under center, Julian Lewis. CU shouldn't do anything to jeopardize Lewis's happiness in Boulder.
Lewis was the guy the entire city rallied around and was deemed the reason Coach Prime is sticking with Colorado. Benching him for a veteran who took a fairly significant step back statistically from 2023 to 2024 would be disastrous.
Coach Breeze, of the "Coolin it w/ Coach Breeze" podcast, put it best: it'd be a bad business move to bench Lewis for Salter or any other veteran QB he can find.
"Bad business move. They already have their guy of the future, unless his plan is to potentially go to Colorado for a year while they get Julian Lewis ready… and Deion Sanders, Kaidon Salter, and Julian Lewis are all in on and agree with the plan," Coach Breeze tweeted.
In the NIL era, every player is essentially on a one-year contract. It's a free agent system that's become wilder than professional sports. College football players have more control than pro athletes do with the transfer portal.
Losing Lewis a year from now because they took a chance on Salter would be a potentially disastrous outcome for Deion, and he probably knows that.
Shedeur Sanders crowned Lewis his successor. Any other QB taking the starting job would be disappointing to the "Grown QB." It'd be a shocker after Lewis announced his commitment on ESPN's "First Take."
Knowing what we know, Coach Prime isn't going to de-prioritize Lewis. If any additional veteran QB is brought on, one would think Lewis would have to be okay with it.
