Alabama and FSU were tabbed as top potential landing spots for Colorado football transfer Cormani McClain in the portal after he left Deion Sanders' Buffs on April 16.

FanSided's John Buehler sees the Crimson Tide qualifying as a top option for the Lakeland, Florida product due to Caleb Downs' transfer to Ohio State and the NFL draft departures of Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold.

"McClain had been recruited by Alabama, but the coaching staff changes means he could have another opportunity to see if the Crimson Tide can be the place for him like so many great defensive backs previously," Buhler prefaced before saying, "I would say Alabama losing Caleb Downs to Ohio State, as well as Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry to the NFL Draft certainly make the Crimson Tide a real contender for him."

As for the Noles, Buhler believes FSU "offers the perfect combination of coaching, winning and proximity for McClain."

Cormani McClain's off-field issues while with Colorado football may limit transfer options

Buhler offered some big-name programs with the defending SEC and ACC champions as potential McClain landing spots, but Denver Sports' Jake Shapiro sees things playing out differently; specifically, McClain having limited transfer options because of his lack of development on, but specifically off the field in Boulder.

"McClain hasn’t been seen practicing this spring," Shapiro prefaced before saying, "There have been rumors flying about him portaling for a long time. He should have plenty of suitors, though his grades are part of the reason he hasn’t been on the field and that may limit his transfer options."

With McClain's high school teammate, Tyler Williams, potentially USF-bound, the Bulls profile as the most likely landing spot for McClain. Playing at least a season in the lower division (Group of Five) and dominating before finding a new home elsewhere afterwards could be the best path of redemption for the ex-5-star corner.
