Avery Johnson explains former Colorado football RB1's stance on Week 7 matchup with K-State
Avery Johnson believes his K-State teammate, former Colorado football RB1 Dylan Edwards, will be just fine facing the Buffs in Week 7 as long as he does what he's done all season with the Wildcats: run the ball with purpose and make plays.
“This is probably one he wants a lot because whenever you play against an old school you define key want to have your best game and be able to contribute to the win," Johnson said (h/t On SI). "Ultimately I dont think he looks at that way. I think he looks at as another week doesn’t want to let the game get to him too much just want to out there and play and do what he does best and that’s give him the ball and be explosive with it."
Edwards is averaging 6.9 yards per carry in 2024 and is tied with Johnson and DJ Giddens for rushing touchdowns (two). Giddens has 64 more carries than Edwards this season and has a 7.3 YPC average; solidifying himself as RB1.
Just because Edwards doesn't have top billing at K-State doesn't mean his career in Manhattan hasn't taken a step forward from his freshman year in Boulder. Edwards has three all-purpose touchdowns, two fewer than all of last season, and only 120 fewer rushing yards than 2023 at the halfway point.
Dylan Edwards made waves transferring from Colorado football
Edwards choosing to leave CU ruffled many feathers this past offseason. DJ Blessone, the host ofIsmokeHiphop Live, called Edwards a "coward" for choosing to transfer in a surprising manner to Coach Prime and his staff.
“Prime had a camp going on and he asked everybody he was intimate cuz he was losing players he’s like look just let me know now I don’t want no surprises who wants to leave," DJ Blessone said (h/t Essentially Sports). “You guys are cowards, man."
This may be more of a revenge game for Colorado than it is for Edwards.
