Colorado football derangement syndrome has fans thinking the program's official X account edited a video of Shedeur Sanders launching a deep ball from the pocket to the corner of the end zone with a shot from a different play of LaJohntay Wester catching a ball and trotting in for a touchdown.
The play, as some initial detractors came to realize, was not spliced together with the use of editing magic. It was just a well-thrown and hauled-in pass from Shedeur to his new potential No. 1 skill position target.
Still, some will ride with the narrative that CU's social media team edited the footage. Tweets will go viral after Shedeur throws an interception or one of his receivers drops a potential touchdown. Like clockwork.
That's the unfortunate reality of being college football's "It" team. The pros, like record revenue for the program and the University of Colorado Boulder at large, outweigh the cons, but the cons could weigh on the average fan going about their day, not trying to deal with bias against their Buffs.
Shedeur Sanders being protected during Colorado football fall camp, but not this much
Coach Prime has declared Shedeur untouchable, along with Travis Hunter and a few others, during fall camp. It's a fact that Shedeur is being protected this summer heading into his farewell season in college.
He's not being protected to the degree of his incompletions being turned into touchdowns by the social media team. There's simply no propaganda being produced to boost his stock. His play on the field last season, despite the win-loss record, does enough speaking for itself.
Tensions are high surrounding the program right now given the hoopla surrounding the bombshell AthlonSports report about the Buffs' locker room.
CU's social media team isn't about to cause drama for the sake of it right now.
