Perhaps first-year Buffs GA Warren Sapp is looking to win big with Colorado football before making a quick jump elsewhere. That's the tone BuffsBeat's Josh Tolle had when discussing a major recruiting win for Deion Sanders' coaching staff.

"Sapp has always wanted to break into coaching but has never been given the opportunity until now," Tolle prefaced before saying, "This is a stepping stone for him to have future advancements and we'll see where this ultimately takes him on the journey. Colorado is expected to have the most NFL influence in the country. Sanders and Sapp are two of the biggest pieces on a staff composed of people with ties to the league. This might be one of the biggest recruiting wins for the Buffs. Any player looking to take their game to the next level would benefit greatly, including Davis-Swain and Walker."

Sapp has been a hands-on presence with his guys on and off the practice field, so it's clear he's taking the opportunity seriously. His hiring at CU opens the door for other programs and NFL teams to feel comfortable hiring him despite the allegations against him in the past. All charges were dropped, but many still view Sapp as a coaching pariah.

Colorado football GA Warren Sapp discusses strict disciplinary intentions

Sapp explained to Thee Pregame Show's Uncle Neely how he plans on keeping his players on the defensive line in line if they come at him "sideways."

"You come at me sideways, I’m going to take it," Sapp said. "It’s okay. Now I’m going to straighten you up. So it ain’t sideways, so we got a direct line of communication. It’s not personal. It’s June, I have seen them now. They are happily giving you what you demand."

Sapp sounds ready for the role and ready to ascend in the coaching ranks during the first season of expanded coaching staffs at the Division I level. Whether or not a promotion in Boulder or a defensive coordinator role elsewhere is in his future largely depends on how things shake out in 2024.
