NFL Spin Zone's Sayre Bedinger believes Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders is a natural replacement for his frequent NFL comp, Geno Smith, on the Seattle Seahawks; among other franchises.

"The Seattle Seahawks are another team right now with a pretty questionable long-term QB situation going on," Bedinger prefaced before saying, "Geno Smith has given them a couple of good years after the Russell Wilson trade, and the team has been competitive with him under center.

"But how much longer is that Cinderella story going to last? When is the clock striking midnight? We saw some signs that the Seahawks were leery of Smith's long-term prospects with the offseason trade to acquire Sam Howell, but we could see this team violently going after quarterbacks in the 2025 offseason."

Seattle had identical records the past two years, but only in 2022 was it good enough for an NFC postseason spot. The Seahawks didn't get too far, unfortunately, bowing out in the Wild Card game against the San Francisco 49ers.

A step back for Smith is the end of the line for his time as QB1 in the Emerald City. It's conceivable they can be drafting at the top of the draft board, but if Smith is healthy, and even if Sam Howell is in his place, they may still have the pieces to win six or seven games.

That's too many to have a chance at Shedeur at this point.

Colorado football still has no clear Shedeur Sanders replacement

It's been all quiet on the Julian Lewis front, meaning there's still no definitive replacement for Shedeur when the "Grown QB" takes his talents to the NFL.

As of now, USC has his commitment, and with the Trojans upsetting LSU in Las Vegas -- and having a stout physical defensive showing with first-year defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn -- it's easy to understand why he'd be hesitant to flip just yet.

The problem? Shedeur went all in on Lewis as his CU successor.

"You know, Julian coming, he may be able to take over the reins, but I wouldn't be mad at that," Sanders told On SI's Kris Miller. "Whoever is the next quarterback, it should be Julian, but he'll be like his new son."

Shedeur was welcoming enough to say it'd be Coach Prime's next son, but by only name-dropping Lewis, everyone else will now feel like a consolation prize.
