Colorado football S Shilo Sanders' attorney provides updates on legal troubles
Colorado football S Shilo Sanders' attorney looks forward to his client telling his side of the story when the time comes in court to answer questions about his bankruptcy, admitting as much -- but in the time being, Victor Vital couldn't speak much to the tie-in of Focus Academies (Dallas) security guard John Darjean, who Sanders assaulted in 2015.
"We have seen the recent press coverage; however, we will not litigate this case in the media," Vital said in a statement (h/t CBS Sports). "We have been, and will continue to be, open and cooperative with the United States Bankruptcy Trustee in all aspects of the bankruptcy case. It is important to recognize that this is a civil proceeding as a result of a default judgment against Shilo. Since he did not have the opportunity to present his case, the trial in the Bankruptcy Court will be the avenue for Shilo to present evidence of what happened and we look forward to vindicating Shilo's rights in Court."
Sanders didn't disclose much of his NIL earnings in the filing. That could come back to bite him if Vital can't make a compelling case. Either way, it's now an uphill battle for Shilo, who wasn't advised well to get this off his record earlier at any previous chances.
Colorado football S Shilo Sanders should've been dressing 'like a bum'
Sanders should've been "dressing like a bum" without his jewelry or fashion show-friendly fits according to Nicole Stanton, a bankruptcy attorney in Atlanta.
“He needs to be laying low because that (bling) is going to raise questions,” Stanton said (h/t USA Today).
Sanders didn't lay low and could be hung out to dry for it once the dust settles. Throw in a shoulder injury with an undetermined return timetable, and you have plenty of problems for a player whose NFL prospects are taking frequent hits from the news wire.
