The culture Coach Prime has established with his Colorado football program convinced receiver LaJohntay Wester and his brother, linebacker Jaylen Wester, to move from West Central Florida region to Boulder as the former FAU star tells it.
“Coach Prime, and just this environment, this family,” LaJohntay said of why CU was the best fit for him and his brother, Jaylen (h/t BuffZone). “It’s a big jump for us because we come from Florida. It’s far from Florida; a big adjustment but we’ve been taking risks all our life so me and my brother, it was a no brainer for us to come here and get the exposure get coached by NFL talent. It was great."
Wester, a WR Shedeur Sanders specifically wanted to join the fold, is impressed with the Buffs' room and the competition its had during the spring.
“Man, it’s been great,” Wester prefaced before saying, “I mean, it’s a lot of competition in that room. Everybody’s still trying to adjust to each other, but we feed off each other’s energy so we compete but we also boost each other up when we’re doing good.”
Colorado football WR coach Jason Phillips sings praises of LaJohntay Wester
CU receivers coach Jason Phillips sounded confident discussing how Wester has come along thus far in his first few months with the Buffs.
“Extremely quick, extremely knowledgeable,” Phillips prefaced before saying, “A veteran; a guy that understands and reads coverages well, and just explosiveness. I mean, it’s no secret as to what he did last season and why he’s here, because he’s an explosive player.”
Wester will get the chance to fill the game-breaker role Xavier Weaver left behind, and thus far in spring ball he's had a few highlights depicting someone who seems ready, willing, and able to be just that.
