Deion Sanders didn't give credence to the report that he made the Prime Weekend Lil Wayne concert on April 27 mandatory, responding to the CFB Talk Daily sharing Glory Colorado's coverage of AthlonSports' scoop.
"This is one of the best lies I’ve heard,” Coach Prime wrote in a quote tweet. “God bless u and I pray u sleep well tonight because we are. Lawd JESUS.”
AthlonSports' Steve Corder had heard that Sanders' mandate was the final straw for certain CU transfers during the May portal window.
"The Wayne concert was the final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal," a source told Corder. "When Coach Prime told us we all had to be there to support Shedeur as a rapper, they were not happy at all. To be honest, it was nothing but a huge distraction and Daddy Ball was being played."
Deion Sanders Jr. also denied Lil Wayne-Colorado football rumor
Bucky Sanders also denied the Lil Wayne concert-being-mandatory rumor and responded to CFB Talk Daily's post.
"Bro this is hilarious," Bucky prefaced before saying, "They basically said he forcing people to listen to his son’s mixtapes. Dawg this is next-level funny."
The story would prove a lot of the "Daddy Ball" allegations correct in one sense, forcing the team to support Shedeur Sanders' rap career -- since the "Grown QB" came on before Weezy took the stage at the CU Events Center on the day of the Black and Gold spring game.
In another sense, though, it's a potential chemistry-building opportunity for the team. Rap concerts aren't everyone's cup of tea, but many things a college football coach imposes on his team isn't a preferred activity of choice.
If Corder's source is correct, and players did leave because of the Weezy show, perhaps they weren't good culture fits anyway.
