Deion Sanders explains ‘redshirt week’ across the country in Week 5
Another week, another challenge for Deion Sanders and Co.
Now in the season's fifth week, players across the country are choosing to end their seasons to maintain an extra year of eligibility. Coach Prime is trying his best to deal with the uncertainty that players electing for redshirts would bring.
When speaking with Romi Bean in her show "Coach Prime's Playbook," Sanders's apprehension was palpable.
"You know what this week is," Sanders said. "Nobody talks about it. Everybody wants to be a red shirt week this week, all around the country. So you got guys tapping out and guys tapping in. So you may see some new guys and some new faces in as well."
Deion Sanders' genuine appeal to all head coaches
It's not the first time that Prime has expressed his concern with fewer coaches speaking about this unofficial "redshirt week." Earlier in his presser on Tuesday, Sanders expressed that more coaches need to talk about it.
"I'm pretty sure everybody's dealing with the guys that want to redshirt. And, I think everybody's dealing with that right now. So, you're having those meetings," Sanders said.
Furthermore, Prime's appeal to head coaches wasn't limited to them dishing out updates on the players who opted out. He genuinely wanted to see how the other coaches were dealing with it too.
"We're not the only ones having several meetings. I'm pretty sure a host of college football coaches are having those, and I would like to know how they deal with certain situations," Sanders added.
Now, as they get set to battle UCF and the difficulties caused by Hurricane Helene, Deion will have to have the tough talk with the players willing to take a redshirt year before their fifth game and make a career-altering decision.
