Deion Sanders predicted to be fired from Colorado football after 1-7 start
A to Z Sports' Zach Ragan believes Deion Sanders isn't long for the Colorado football program -- predicting Coach Prime to be canned by CU's brain trust after the Buffs stumble out the gate to a 1-7 start in 2024.
"I like Deion Sanders," Ragan prefaced before saying, "I think he's one of the greatest competitors of all time. What he did in the NFL and in MLB still amazes me. But when it comes to running a program....well, no one is perfect. Sanders is trying to build a college football program like it's still 1988. And that's just not going to work. He might get a few players to buy in, but I doubt he's going to get a whole roster of players to buy in to his madness. I don't think Colorado is deep enough to be a serious contender. And I think Sanders could quickly lose the locker room if things go south. I doubt Colorado wants to fire Sanders -- they have to love the attention and donations that he brings to the program -- but I don't think they can stand by him if he gets off to a disastrous start in 2024 and the program starts to suffer a black eye when it comes to public perception."
Fear not, Buffs fans. This prediction isn't one that has any chance of happening based on the results of the 2024 season.
On3's Andy Staples: Deion Sanders isn't going to get fired as Colorado football head coach
Industry experts have assessed Sanders' chances of getting fired as nonexistent. On3's Andy Staples sees Coach Prime in a different boat than coaches like Billy Napier and Sam Pittman, who face real chances of getting let go by Florida and Arkansas, respectively.
“I get it. Every coach who takes over a team has to figure that out, but the question is, is Deion trying to win? Because Deion is not going to get fired,” Staples said on the latest episode of Andy Staples On3 (h/t On3's Steve Samra). “Like, he’s not on the — Billy Napier, Sam Pittman. Those are guys who are going to get fired if they don’t succeed. Deion’s not getting fired. Deion could go 1-10, 1-11. He won’t get fired. So he can build it however he wants to, he’s choosing to do it this way. … It’s the architect, for sure. I’ve watched enough buildings get built. I know what happens when you build them one way, I know what happens when you build them another way.
“So if this architect thinks he knows something that every other architect who ever existed doesn’t know, congratulations. But if he’s wrong..."
Sanders has it too good at the University of Colorado Boulder to pursue greener grass elsewhere, but CU knows it has never had it as good monetarily and PR-wise as it has now with Coach Prime.
