In-conference transfer deemed best Colorado football offseason pickup
Arizona State transfer B.J. Green was deemed by BuffZone's Brian Howell to be "arguably the best" Colorado football pickup of the offseason.
"One of the better defensive linemen in the Pac-12, he was second-team All-Pac-12 last season after putting up 39 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and six sacks," Howell wrote. "He also had 11 quarterback hurries. CU needs impact in the trenches on defense and Green is arguably the best pickup of the offseason."
As for the second-best pickup, Howell deemed UTEP transfer Justin Mayers the best of the offensive line transfers that Coach Prime and new offensive line coach Phil Loadholt brought to Boulder to protect Shedeur Sanders adequately.
"It’s been well documented how much Sanders wanted to revamp his offensive line," Howell prefaced before saying, "Five experienced FBS starters – and top prep recruit Jordan Seaton – have all joined the herd, but Mayers might be the best transfer of the bunch. He earned All-Conference USA honorable mention the past two seasons, starting all 24 games for the Miners at left guard. He’s allowed just two sacks in the past two seasons."
B.J. Green projected to have third-highest EA Sports College Football 25 rating of any Colorado football player
Green was projected by The Coloradoan's Scott Procter to have the third-highest EA Sports College Football 25 rating of any Buffs player when the highly-anticipated video game releases in the summer.
In 2023, the defensive line was a weakness throughout the season's early going but became a group that stabilized by October. With Green, though, the group could be one that actually forces the issue and makes plays.
While Travis Hunter, Cormani McClain, and Preston Hodge make up one of the best secondaries in the Big 12, at least, Green could help improve the run defense and make the secondary's group easier.
