Jordan Seaton reveals how Deion Sanders clinched his Colorado football commitment
Deion Sanders caring about Jordan Seaton's improvement before the 5-star IMG Academy OT even committed to the head coach's Colorado football program sealed Seaton's commitment to CU, as the D.C. native tells it.
“He told me I need to bend my hips a little bit more, so I’m like, ‘I can work with that,’” Seaton said of Sanders (h/t Sports Illustrated). “Right now you’re trying to elevate me, and I’m not even here. You’re invested in me and just want me to win, and I haven’t even came to your school yet. So that kind of stood out to me the most. I don’t really like the yes men in your ear.
“I haven’t really seen that on a lot of my visits. I’ve kinda been everywhere in the nation, from Oregon to all the way back in Maryland where I’m from. So I kinda seen it all, seen what every university brought, and right here, this is the best fit for me. And then Coach Prime, he’s Coach Prime. Who wouldn’t want to play for him?”
Colorado football HC Deion Sanders recruited Jordan Seaton much differently than peers
While Sanders gave Seaton pointers on how to improve, other coaches offered the OT veiled, if not outright, racism on why Seaton shouldn't commit to Colorado.
"This was the most famous one I got," Seaton said (h/t BuffsBeat). "It was like 'What do you want to be a rapper or something?' I'm like...Hey... *Laughing*… I get what you're saying, but... bro... There was a lot of negative recruiting (at Coach Prime). I feel like some people don't understand that he's only had... He's only been there for what... Has it been a year yet? It's been a year. The turnaround that program has from 1-11 to 4-8... to see that is cool."
It's not hard to see why Coach Prime was able to land Seaton considering the competitions' pitch didn't offer a solution -- but rather racially charged insults at a head coach who'd rather set a recruit up for success whether he commits to him or not.
