National analyst predicts Deion Sanders pulling a 2020 Jim Harbaugh after Nebraska game
Mike Farrell Sports' Rock Westfall predicts Deion Sanders pulling a 2020 Jim Harbaugh -- taking his ball and going home for the rest of the season like Harbaugh did before Michigan would've played Ohio State during the COVID season -- after the September 7 Nebraska game.
"It wouldn't surprise anyone if he pulled a vintage 2020 Jim Harbaugh and called in sick for the rest of the year (after the Nebraska game)," Westfall prefaced before saying, "He could also quit and take Shedeur with him to protect the QB for the NFL Draft, or he could stick around and endure weekly humiliations in what seems to be a terminally ill coaching career at CU."
This prediction comes less than a week after Mike Farrell called for Sanders to step down after calling out the media at a fiery August 9 press conference.
"Deion is clearly not cut out to be a college football coach as he cuts corners, takes things personally and can’t hide his favoritism for his sons," Farrell wrote.
"We’ve seen him be defensive, throw players under the bus and he’s getting worse and worse with the media. Maybe that’s understandable for an iconic man who is attacked by so many. But maybe also he should get out of college football if he doesn’t like the heat."
Deion Sanders won't step down unless bombshell allegations are true
Sanders storming out would upend college football as we know it. Sure, it'd only be the loss of a 4-8 program's coach on paper, but having such a high-profile divorce with Colorado before the season even truly started would be the end of Sanders' coaching career and an unprecedented happening in the sport.
The only universe that happens is one where multiple outlets corroborate with Athlon Sports' report about fights and a rampant "gun culture" in the locker room. So far that hasn't happened yet.
Unless that happens, there's just no way the University of Colorado Boulder is ending the "Prime Time" experiment; regardless of the Buffs' record for the duration of Coach Prime's contract.
