Husker Corner's Oliver Vandervoort believes that, just like Shawn Michaels in February 1997, Deion Sanders has lost his smile. Vandervoort accused Coach Prime of no longer having fun leading the Colorado football program this season after he said that it didn't even feel like his Buffs won during a 31-26 Week 1 win over North Dakota State.
Vandervoort warned Buffs fans that Sanders can become the next Bo Pelini if things don't change quickly.
"It’s pretty clear that Sanders just isn’t having much fun this year," Vandervoort prefaced before saying, "Even when his team gets a win he’s more worried about who is rooting against him. I have a message for Colorado fans. That’s not a good thing. The Huskers had a coach like that. He melted down in rather impressive fashion.
"Bo Pelini hasn’t even been seen in college football circles for several years now. Someone needs to talk to Deion."
Deion Sanders having more fun coaching Colorado football than he's given credit for
Coach Prime is definitely too hung up on the media. While calling out The Denver Post's Sean Keeler at a now infamous August 9 presser was well within his rights, banning him from asking questions at CU events gives the situation far more oxygen than it deserves.
Calling out the entire media after winning Week 1 was more of the same. His Buffs aren't competing against the media, so why be angry at them; let alone after a win, no less.
With that said, saying Sanders is having no fun feels a bit harsh. If nothing else, Sanders has been charmed by the rise of Charlie Offerdahl from walk-on to RB1 and he's been highly confident and vocal about his entire roster's improvement all offseason.
CU barely escaped against North Dakota State. If he bragged about it too much, they'd say he was a fool who treated an FCS team like his Super Bowl. But he went in the other direction, believing his team didn't play like they should've, and he's still hearing it from talking heads.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't when you're Deion Sanders.
