Shedeur Sanders was floated as the NY Giants' next starting quarterback should Daniel Jones fail to lead Big Blue forward during the 2024 season. NJ.com's Darryl Slater bluntly laid out that option in a piece titled "Daniel Jones’ last-chance Giants season is here. Will Dak Prescott (or Shedeur Sanders) replace him?" (subscription required).

Sanders confirmed that he was a first-round talent with a 445-yard, four-touchdown showing against North Dakota State -- and evidently his Week 1 performance, freak interception in the end zone and all, already has those in the New Jersey media excited for what the Giants' future could look like.

There's an obvious lack of faith in Jones, who has led New York to the postseason just once in the four seasons Eli Manning has been retired. A new era under center may be needed if Jones isn't a winning leader like No. 10 was. The Giants would welcome the son of a Dallas Cowboys legend if it meant having an improved passer and a proven winner.

Sanders is a proven winner in the SWAC and is working on being that at a Power 4 school as Colorado's leading man.

Shedeur Sanders can replace Dak Prescott on Dallas Cowboys

Maybe Jones will turn things around for Big Blue in 2024. Or maybe the Giants will focus on a different position with their first-round pick and instead pursue Prescott in free agency. That latter option would open up a spot on Jerry Jones' Cowboys.

Former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum said on the August 30 episode of ESPN's "Get Up" that Sanders is more likely to be Cowboys QB1 than Prescott next year.

"There's a better chance, in my opinion, that Shedeur Sanders could be the quarterback [for the Cowboys] next year than Dak Prescott at this point," Tannenbaum said.

There will be plenty of moving parts next offseason in the NFL -- and Shedeur will be part of one of the more memorable QB musical chairs the league has seen since Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Phillip Rivers signed with the Indianapolis Colts, Cam Newton signed with the New England Rivers, Joe Burrow was drafted to the Cincinnati Bengals, and Tua Tagovailoa was drafted to the Miami Dolphins back in 2020.
