Travis Hunter offers staunch defense of Deion Sanders' Colorado football program
Travis Hunter is typically on the quiet side, but ahead of the Colorado football program's Week 1 opener against North Dakota State, the two-way star defended Deion Sanders and his coaching staff from the smears shared by former players.
Hunter alluded to those transfers being the problem; not Coach Prime and Co.
"They can’t take the criticism," Hunter said (h/t FOX News Digital). "They can’t take coaches getting on them. They can’t take not being able to start right off the bat. They think everything is handed to them, and they can’t take how they’re getting treated."
Most interestingly enough, Hunter said that Sanders treats all of his players the same. That claim is dubious, though, considering the constant badgering of Cormani McClain for being late and not attending meetings in juxtaposition with Shedeur and Shilo Sanders being excused to attend the Louis Vuitton fall-winter show in Paris headlined by Pharrell Williams back in January.
Nevertheless, Hunter is vociferously defending his coach; one who views him as a son. That's the power of family at work in Boulder.
It's "us against them" in Colorado's locker room. That could be a great thing if the players can handle that pressure.
'Prime Time' spotlight with Colorado football program isn't for everyone, but it's great for the best
Hunter and Shedeur, in particular, have been able to embrace the "Prime Time" spotlight and become larger-than-life sports figures while playing for Coach Prime. Not everyone can do that, though. And not everyone wants to.
As much as Sanders takes the spotlight from his players with every move he makes, what's left over for everyone else is still more than some conferences get as a whole.
It's understandable to not want to practice with a camera in your face and millions getting access to what you do behind the scenes. But the payoff could be exponential if that spotlight is embraced.
Hunter and Shedeur, two projected top 2025 NFL draft picks, are shining examples of that.
