Travis Hunter 'out-Priming' Deion Sanders according to 2024 SI Power List
Travis Hunter is and has been "out-Priming" Deion Sanders during his collegiate career according to Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde -- who penned Hunter's write-up as part of his 2024 SI Power List profile.
"Playing for Deion Sanders, college football’s most accomplished two-way player of the past 40 years, Hunter is out-Priming Coach Prime," Forde wrote. "As a sophomore in 2023, he averaged 114.7 snaps per game for the Buffaloes, a workload that was unmatched nationally. Hunter spent slightly more time on defense (cornerback) than offense (wide receiver), with a smattering of action on special teams. Despite playing only nine games, he tied for the team lead in interceptions (three) and pass breakups (five) while also leading Colorado in receptions per game (6.3). The NFL will probably view Hunter as a cornerback first, but at this point there’s no reason to place limits on him."
Forde is right about the NFL viewing Hunter as a corner before seeing him as a receiver. Franchises league-wide will want to save money on his deal and CBs make $10 million less, on average, than WRs.
But the two-way superstar is going to be giving the NFL a Travis Hunter problem, as Coach Prime has warned.
Deion Sanders on Travis Hunter's pro career: 'NFL got a problem'
Sanders was blunt when asked about Hunter playing both sides of the ball in the NFL: Hunter is going to get what he wants in the league, whether his prospective employer approves or not.
"NFL got a problem," Coach Prime said of Hunter (h/t Bleacher Report). "What you gonna draft him as? And... he's gotta play both ways. 'Cause he has value on both sides of the ball."
Whether Hunter actually listens to Sanders and forces the issue, not just with what position he'll play but with what franchise too, is anyone's guess.
If he does, though, there's no question he'll be "out-Priming" Coach Prime.
