Shedeur Sanders and Cam Skattebo were left out of the list of Heisman Trophy finalists, with Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel getting the invite to New York for the ceremony instead.
Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams claimed that Shedeur and Skattebo were "notably absent" from the list.
"Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Colorado cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Miami quarterback Cam Ward will attend the award ceremony on Saturday night in New York City. Notably absent were Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders," Williams wrote.
If you had to choose two snubs, sure, Shedeur and Skattebo would be the first two names that come to mind. But everyone that got the invite to the Big Apple deserves it. There would've been a bigger uproar if those players were excluded.
Obviously, Hunter and Jeanty were always in consideration. Hunter is the game's most dynamic player, staying on the field for over 100 snaps per game. Jeanty had the best season from a running back since Barry Sanders.
But Ward led a 10-2 Miami back to prominence and Dillon Gabriel is the engine behind the No. 1 team in the nation's offensive attack. Oregon needed a representative, and not recognizing Ward would've been egregious.
There were no true snubs in the Heisman race this year. The only possible snub would be Hunter not winning because of an anti-Deion Sanders bias.
Check the odds on any sportsbook. That's not happening. Hunter is as good as the Heisman already. All is right with the award this year.
