Shedeur Sanders does not believe in love at first sight.

The former Colorado quarterback opened up about dating, family approval and the reality behind the honeymoon stage during Cosmopolitan’s “Blind Date” interview with Editor-in-Chief Willa Bennett.

While he simply said "no" regarding any chance at love upon first laying eyes on someone, he did have much more to say when Bennett asked whether he would date someone his parents did not approve of. For all his confidence in making his own decisions, Sanders still greatly appreciate input from Pilar and Deion Sanders.

“It’s not okay to date them because I think they think things through.”

The now second-year Cleveland Browns' QB explained that his parents’ experiences, including their divorce, give them a perspective he considers valuable when navigating relationships himself.

Between jokes and flirtatious questions, he talked openly about the people he trusts and why an early connection does not necessarily tell the whole story. When Willa suggested he seemed charming rather than complicated, Sanders responded with a warning familiar to anyone who has watched a promising relationship change.

“But that’s how it always works in the honeymoon stages. Everybody in here knows what I’m talking about.”

When asked to explain, he added, “Everything’s so perfect. Then reality hits.”

Sanders has already experienced the attention that comes with a public romance. In January 2023, as he prepared to begin his Colorado career, he was linked to actress Storm Reid.

Singers Shenseea and Yung Miami along with Instagram model Jasmine Rae have shown up in various blogs as possible partners after being spotted at events. There was even a rumor of him dating Angel Reese in 2024. That has been long since debunked.

Those appearances show how quickly a public appearance can become a dating story. In the Cosmopolitan interview, Shedeur seemed more interested in describing how he thinks than identifying anyone in his personal life.

When questioned about whether he reads Instagram comments or follows discussion about himself, he answered, “Uh no, not really.”

There was humor in his approach, too. Sanders said he would consider couples therapy, although his first instinct would be to interview the person conducting it.

“I would. I just want to see who the therapist is and ask them questions.”

For Coach Prime and Sanders' family fans familiar with his confidence on the field, that answer might sound recognizable. Shedeur wants to always understand the situation and form his own opinion.
