Shedeur Sanders shared an interesting comment on two NFL QBs, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson, on his "2Legendary" podcast; one that could be taken as a diss to the former and a compliment to the latter.
"Joe Burrow. He just developed a work habit and work ethic that anybody can develop," Sanders said. "So he’s realistic vs. like a Lamar Jackson. I could try whatever I’d want to try and I could do all these workouts, and I could never be Lamar Jackson. He’s special. He has his own category."
Interestingly, Burrow's NFL and collegiate career are more impressive thus far from a team success perspective. Of course, Burrow had perhaps one of the greatest individual seasons at LSU to lead the Tigers to a national championship in 2019/2020. Jackson was great at Louisville, but he didn't come close to a title. Ditto for the NFL. Burrow has been to a Super Bowl and nearly won it in 2022. Jackson has still only made a conference championship thus far.
On a statistical basis, though, Jackson is really only in competition with Patrick Mahomes. Jackson is an offensive system unto himself and hasn't had the injury history Burrow has.
Shedeur isn't a dual-threat like Jackson and doesn't have nearly the same speed in the open field. There isn't a comparison between the two. Shedeur has already been compared to Burrow, though.
"It's Joe Burrow for me," DNVR's Jake Schwanitz said regarding who his comp for Shedeur is back in June.
Shedeur's pro career won't be about replicating Burrow or striving to be Jackson. He'll be his own man and have franchise QB duties from the moment he's drafted. Probably with the Las Vegas Raiders.
