Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter can etch Colorado Buffaloes' name in Heisman history
Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are the unquestionable Heisman favorites from Colorado, but can they both be invited to the 2024 Heisman ceremony in New York -- making history for the Buffs in the process?
Two players from the same team have rarely been elected as finalists and been invited to the Heisman ceremony together. There have been eight times in 42 years in which two teammates were invited and that hasn't had happen since 2004; when two pairs of teammates were invited.
Colorado has never had two finalists in the Heisman ceremony. If Hunter and Shedeur pull it off, it will be historic for Colorado, in more than one way.
"In seven of those occasions, those teammates came from an undefeated team ranked No. 1 (five times) or No. 2 (twice) in the country," The Denver Post's Brian Howell further explains.
Colorado is already 6-2. Even if they manage to win every remaining game in their schedule, they would still finish 10-2, making it a truly historic feat if Hunter and Sanders win.
Hunter is the clear top Heisman favorite currently, with +220 odds per Fox Sports. Until now, Sanders wasn't in the Heisman talks much, but his name is slowly gaining traction as he has top-seven odds, with +4000 odds to make it to the Heisman finals.
Shedeur Sanders wants Travis Hunter to win
Deion Sanders expressed his displeasure with his son not getting enough attention for the Heisman with his irate "Because he's my son," speech. Shedeur might get overlooked because of Hunter hogging all the light, or Colorado not winning enough. Now that Colorado has a good winning record, their QB is on the top 10 Heisman list.
But any of this doesn't matter to the Buffs QB as he just wants to see his teammate win.
"I just want Travis to win. Travis, he's the best player in college football hands down. And I'm excited for him to win it," Shedeur said openheartedly in his post-game speech.
The likes of Heisman coming to Colorado are relatively high this season, but will the etch history is the real question here.
