Deion Sanders is best known by his famous nickname "Prime Time," so much so that he isn't even known as Coach Sanders; he is known as Coach Prime. Sanders was given the name back in high school when a friend called him that for his dominant athletic ability, and it followed him all the way to the NFL. Sanders always showed up in the biggest games of the season, most notably, games played in what is known as prime time, or night games in the NFL.
Shedeur Sanders has yet to really earn the nickname his father was given or even really be called "Prime Time Jr.," but he definitely won't get his opportunity to earn a nick name like that this NFL season.
The former Colorado quarterback made national headlines when he dropped all the way to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Cleveland Browns were the team to finally end his waiting, drafting their second quarterback of the draft. Shedeur was drafted after the Browns took Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in the third round the day before.
There is no knowing if Sheduer will even be the starter for the Browns next season, but he certainly will get his shot at the job. With the NFL releasing their 2025 schedules last night, there was one thing to note for Sanders and his team.
The Browns will not play a single prime-time game in the 2025 season.
While schedules could always change and times could get flexed, so the Browns could find themselves playing in a prime-time game, it just seems a little ironic, doesn't it? Prime Time's son won't get to play in a prime-time game. You really can't make this stuff up sometimes.
Sanders will have his shot to compete for the starting role as he is set to compete with Gabriel, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett. While Deshaun Watson is still on the Browns, after suffering an Achilles injury last season and a few setbacks in recovery, it looks like he will miss the entirety of the 2025 season. It is up to Sanders now to win the starting role, he just may not play in prime-time all season long.
