Deion Sanders and Colorado football could be looking to renew their commitment to each other for even longer soon. On SI's Kenny Lee relayed that speculation has sparked about the two sides putting pen to paper to extend their partnership beyond its current expiration date.
"Deion Sanders has solidified his reputation as one of college football’s most dynamic and impactful coaches during the 2024 season. After a challenging 4-8 campaign in 2023, the Colorado Buffaloes have made a remarkable turnaround under Sanders’ leadership, finishing 9-3 and securing a spot in a bowl game. This success has not only elevated Sanders’ profile but also significantly boosted his earnings through performance bonuses outlined in his contract," Lee wrote.
"Despite the hype surrounding his hire and the initial buzz, Sanders’ contract remained untouched after the Buffaloes’ underwhelming finish. However, the dramatic turnaround in 2024 has positioned Sanders as one of the hottest coaching commodities in college football, sparking speculation about potential contract extension talks."
Given the autonomy Coach Prime enjoys and the financial boon the University of Colorado Boulder saw with the arrival of "Prime Time," it's not shocking to see a 9-3 season prompt extension talks this offseason.
Sanders taking an NFL job isn't the prevalent narrative in real life it is online. But retirement could've been on the table if Sanders wasn't having fun coaching any longer after a second straight down year in the Power Conferences.
Winning 75% of your games and flipping one of the best Class of 2025 QBs in the country is certainly a fun enough reason to continue giving this coaching thing a try, though.
