USA Today provides a favorable update for Shilo Sanders' legal battle in bankruptcy case
Shilo Sanders got a favorable update on his bankruptcy case this past week, with a federal judge not seeing conclusive evidence that the Colorado safety should be liable for over $11 million in settlement payouts to John Darjean; a security officer Shilo assaulted in 2015 at Focus Academy in the Dallas area.
As USA Today's Brent Schrotenboer reports, though, Sanders could face a case regarding his mental state when he assaulted Darjean.
"A federal bankruptcy judge heard arguments Thursday in the bankruptcy case of Colorado football player Shilo Sanders and questioned whether there was enough evidence right now to make a ruling against Sanders that would prevent Sanders from discharging more than $11 million in debt," Schrotenboer wrote.
"Judge Michael Romero issued no rulings after the court hearing. But he indicated that if he eventually denies the request for a summary judgment against Sanders, the case could go to trial to determine what Sanders’ mental state was when Sanders allegedly assaulted a security guard at his school in 2015, when Sanders was 15 years old."
Shilo's attorney explained where this is headed.
“What was going through this 15-year-old’s mind at the time is what I think this case is about,” said attorney Victor Vital.
Shedeur, Deion Sanders not likely to be subpoenaed in Shilo Sanders case
If the bankruptcy aspect is no longer the focus, that means a subpoena for Shedeur and/or Deion Sanders is no longer likely.
Shilo's NFL career may have circumvented a massive roadblock with the direction his legal troubles are going.
