USA Today sends worrying message on changes to Colorado football star's Heisman odds
Two-way Colorado football star Travis Hunter likely saw his Heisman odds dip even further on October 19 after he left the Buffs' 34-7 win over Arizona according to USA Today's Craig Meyer. Hunter left after the first half and never returned due to CU's three-touchdown lead after two quarters. He had two catches for 17 yards and a solo tackle on defense.
"Given his production and his rare ability to excel on both sides of the ball, Hunter is among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy," Meyer prefaced before saying, "His lack of snaps the past two weeks, however, will likely put him further behind Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who has 1,248 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in his team’s first six games this season."
Ashton Jeanty and Boise State had their bye week. That helps Hunter's cause. Unfortunately, though, the mounting missed snaps for No. 12 are going to stick with Heisman voters who may already be turned off by Hunter's attitude.
Travis Hunter lashed out at Ashton Jeanty during podcast appearance
Hunter made headlines after lashing out at Jeanty on the "Outta Pocket with RGIII" podcast for being "a running back that's good."
“I know I can win it, but I don’t know who’s there,” Hunter told RGIII and his wife Grete. “I mean y’all see Ashton Jeanty, it’s not like we haven’t seen a running back that’s good. We haven’t seen a player that plays both ways and I’m gonna keep saying that.
“He has, I think, 95 carries for 1,000 yards. If I had 95 catches, how much yards you think I’d have? If I had 95 targets on defense what you think I’d have? If I had 95 catches on offense, what do you think I’d have?”
Hunter may be upset about his health. Or he may just have a new attitude amidst a career year. Either way, Hunter is probably going to be bitter that his Heisman odds are likely going to be much lower after Week 8.
