Colorado coach Deion Sanders offered uncertain updates on wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. and linebacker Tyler Martinez after the Buffaloes’ loss to Baylor.
Moore returned to the sideline after going down during the game and was cheering for his teammates, Sanders said. The coach praised the senior receiver’s toughness but said he did not know the nature of the injury.
“He’s doing good,” Sanders said. “I saw him on the sideline, cheering up his teammates and rooting them on, and he’s a warrior.”
Asked whether Moore’s injury involved his head or lower body, Sanders emphasized that he did not know.
“I really don’t know,” he said. “I would assume, and I hate to assume anything...I would think that it was a head thing.”
Moore has 15 catches for 200 yards and one touchdown this season. He transferred to Colorado after two seasons at Texas, where he had 77 receptions for 988 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Sanders also said Martinez was “down,” but he did not know whether the linebacker would miss the rest of the season. Martinez has 15 tackles, including seven solo stops, and one sack for Colorado this year.
“He’s down. I don’t know about for the season, but he’s down,” Sanders said. “First thing I think about when I see a guy like that: Can he get a medical?”
Martinez is in his fifth season of college football. He previously played at New Mexico Military Institute in 2022 and New Mexico State from 2023 to 2025 before transferring to Colorado. Barring something completely unforeseen, he would be out of eligibility following this season.
Sanders called Martinez valuable to the team and said he did not want him trying to return before he was ready. He recalled Martinez saying he wanted to be helped back onto the field.
“He’s that kind of guy,” Sanders said.
Sanders also praised wide receiver Joseph Williams, saying he has been consistent and has worked to clean up mistakes that affected him last season.
“He’s been a dawg,” Sanders said. “He was steered in the wrong direction a little bit last year, and he was penalized quite a bit...holdings and illegal procedures and all that kind of stuff. But he’s cleaning up, man, and he wants it. He wants to be that guy, and he is that guy right now.”
Sanders said his message to the team would focus on each player’s responsibilities and attention to detail.
“It’s about what they’re gonna do, and they gotta stay strong in detail and focus on the little things to accomplish what they want to do,” he said.
Colorado returns home to face No. 11 Texas Tech on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Buffaloes then have a bye week.
