Colorado football fans have not gotten much good news since the Buffs' 36-14 Alamo Bowl loss to BYU in late December. It's mostly been rumors that "Prime Time" was about to end in Boulder.
Deion Sanders has been frequently linked to NFL teams, most notably the Dallas Cowboys in January. Coach Prime spoke with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones repeatedly, though an official interview was never conducted.
On Sunday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared an update that CU fans could appreciate: a formal interview doesn't appear likely.
"Nothing scheduled yet with Coach Prime," Rapoport said. "I'd be surprised, probably very surprised, if something did in fact get scheduled."
Rapoport's report comes days after Adam "Pacman" Jones strongly pushed back against the Coach Prime-Dallas rumors.
"Deion is not leaving Colorado by no means necessary. Unless he was able to coach both his sons, but I don't think that's possible," Jones said on The Pat McAfee Show.
Jones even offered a likely alternative coach: Kellen Moore.
"First and foremost, the next Dallas Cowboys head coach is going to be Kellen Moore," Jones said. "Sources say Ben Johnson is going to be the Raiders coach.
"I think it was good entertainment but I don't think Deion is going to Jerry world."
If Sanders was just using Jones for leverage in contract negotiations with Colorado, and at that same token, if Jones was using Coach Prime, this would have been a couple of friends trolling the football world for some clicks.
It wasn't particularly endearing for the Cowboys or Buffs fanbases.
