Colorado football GA Warren Sapp still maintaining connection to NFL
Colorado football GA Warren Sapp is still maintaining his connection to the NFL via Von Miller's Sack Summit in Las Vegas. There, he gave Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Calijah Kancey tips on his game.
“Oh, he was just giving me keys and tips and things to work on going into Year 2,” Kancey said of Sapp (h/t JoeBucsFan.com). “He said that’s when he made his significant jump.
"He liked my quickness and how I play with my pad level. Yeah, he loves (Kancey playing for the Bucs)."
While that does make one wonder how long he'll be willing to stay in Boulder before aiming for a job in the NFL, Sapp still being a presence in pro circles is a good recruiting tool in the interim for defensive linemen.
Sapp is clearly resonating with guys at the next level. Kancey spoke positively of Sapp's input. That should bode well for the Buffs for as long as they have him in a graduate assistant role.
Warren Sapp would get less hostile media coverage in NFL than with Colorado football
Sapp has been shredded by college football analysts in a way he wouldn't if he ended up in Tampa as an assistant.
Mike Farrell (of the Mike Farrell Sports brand) called Sapp a "menace to society" who is unfit to coach college-aged student-athletes. Farrell deemed Sapp an unworthy risk for Coach Prime's Colorado Buffaloes.
"Domestic violence, soliciting prostitution, and so on, Sapp has been a menace to society for years," Farrell prefaced before saying, "Despite his amazing college and NFL career and Hall of Fame status, Deion Sanders bringing him on as a GA at Colorado is puzzling. Deion is all about second chances, of course, but he’s also (supposedly) about his players' best interests, and being around a guy like Sapp could be amazing or could go poorly. This isn’t worth that risk."
Sapp's influence is yet to be seen, but B.J. Green's success is something that could be tied to the Pro Football Hall of Famer. Sapp has taken the ASU transfer under his wing.
